Gleaning America's Fields ~ Feeding America's Hungry

3rd Annual After the Harvest Breakfast Fundraiser ~ more than $14,000 raised

October 31, 2011, by Lisa Ousley, SoSA West Director

SoSA West staff and Advisory Board members welcomed 175 friends and supporters to the third annual SoSA West “After the Harvest” breakfast fundraiser at Grace & Holy Trinity Cathedral’s Founders Hall in Downtown Kansas City MO on Thursday, October 13.

The event began at 8 a.m., when guests were treated to a hearty breakfast, complete with sausage, bacon, and scrambled eggs; biscuits and sausage gravy, a variety of muffins, cinnamon rolls and sweet rolls, oatmeal, and fresh fruit and yogurt, as well as plenty of orange juice and coffee. Eggs and sausage were donated by Good Natured Family Farms, who also donated apples, pumpkins, and squash for the centerpieces. Fresh fruit was donated by Global Produce and Cristina Produce. Biscuits were donated by Grandma's Office Catering, and povitica bread was donated by Strawberry Hill. The catering service was also donated by Cornerstones Catering.

Following breakfast, guests enjoyed a new video about SoSA West that was produced by KC Creative, with an original score by Bentley Ousley and Pragmatic Records, who also donated his work. The cost of the video will be covered with a donation by Bill Brandmeyer.

The event allowed SoSA West to reach out to new supporters and share our story. All of us at SoSA West are truly grateful to all who have supported us in the past, as well as all who donated food, funds and time to make this event a success, and all who made donations at the event. These donations will help SoSA West do what it does best: feed more people with fresh fruits and vegetables.

Everyone had plenty to eat and the leftovers stayed at Grace & Holy to be served in their Community Kitchen that feeds hundreds of needy Kansas citizens daily. Their Culinary Cornerstones Catering service, which trains unemployed people in the culinary arts, provided the catering service for free to SoSA West.
